Presidential adviser Dou Sanno has accused former Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda of failing to deliver a new market despite what he claimed were substantial annual revenues collected from market traders.

Speaking at a political gathering, Sanno alleged that KMC collected about D365 million every year from market traders, describing them as “poor women and men”.

Sanno further claimed that Bensouda left KMC owing more than D2 billion and questioned why a new market had not been constructed for traders during his tenure.

“Talib Bensouda has done bad than any other mayor,” Sanno said.

He added: “Every year KMC collects 365 million from our poor women and men at the market.”

Sanno also alleged that Bensouda “owes us more than two billions” and criticised him for failing to build a market for the women.

His remarks come as political parties and their supporters intensify their campaigns and attacks on rival political figures ahead of the 2026 presidential election.

Sanno’s claims concerning KMC’s annual market revenue and the alleged D2 billion debt have not been independently verified. Bensouda’s response to the allegations was not included in the remarks provided.
