Exiled former Gambian strongman Yahya Jammeh has been accused of losing touch with reality after alleging that President Adama Barrow engages in human sacrifice.
Presidential adviser Dou Sanno, reacting to Jammeh’s latest outburst, described the comments as “unfortunate,” particularly coming from someone who once held the country’s highest office.
“I’m not against your return to The Gambia. That is your constitutional right as a citizen,” Sanno said in a direct rebuttal. “But your ambition to return to power and the threats you’re now making, are part of a false dream. You must be living in delusion.”
Sanno praised the Barrow administration for restoring democratic norms and protecting human rights, which he said had been eroded during Jammeh’s 22-year rule.

He also emphasised that President Barrow harboured no personal animosity toward his predecessor.
“Since Barrow came to power, no one has been jailed for political reasons. But reflect on your time in office; how many people died, how many were forced into exile?” he said. “Gambians are now happy under President Adama Barrow’s leadership.”
Sanno also condemned Jammeh’s recent attack on Foni Berefet lawmaker Amie Colley, who recently pledged her support for President Barrow. Jammeh had accused her of dishonesty and betrayal in a leaked voice message.
“As someone who once claimed to champion women’s rights, you are now the one disrespecting women,” Sanno said. “Amie Colley is a married woman and deserves respect. It is neither right nor decent to badmouth a married woman in public. You should apologise to Amie Colley because women are our mothers, our sisters and our daughters.”
