Dozens of Gambian women trafficked to Oman have been repatriated through the facilitation by Foundation Against Trafficking and Irregular Migrations (FATIM) in collaboration with the victim’s families.

According to the foundation, this is the first batch of returnees from the Middle Eastern country of Oman who were mostly young girls trafficked for domestic work.

“Upon arrivals they were exposed to hard labour and some of them faced sexual harassment, however it was not all of them.

“The hard labour imposed on them without enough rest cause health complications for most of them, their return was facilitated and fully funded by the Foundation Against Trafficking and Irregular Migrations (FATIM) in collaboration with the Victim’s Families,” the foundation said.

“They came via Senegal hence the foundation is too young and was not able to facilitate their journey via The Gambia because there was no support from no one including government and the foundation has reached out to them for support to no avail.

“We are working tirelessly for the repatriation of the remaining badge but we cannot disclose it at the moment hence we are struggling with financial constraint, therefore we are soliciting for the support of the general public to help donate the rest,” it added.
