The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has concluded the prosecution of Abdourahman Hydara before the Brikama Magistrates’ Court for assaulting a traffic police officer while she was carrying out her duties.

Hydara was charged under Section 199 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025 following an incident on July 28, 2026, during a traffic enforcement exercise in Lamin, Kombo North.

He pleaded guilty before Magistrate K. Sambou. The court subsequently cautioned and discharged him and ordered him to pay D20,000 in compensation to the victim, with six months’ imprisonment in default.

The GPF has urged motorists to respect traffic officers, follow lawful instructions and avoid obstructing officers in the execution of their duties.

It also advised drivers with complaints about police conduct to use established complaint and accountability mechanisms rather than resorting to confrontation.
