The drivers nationwide sit-down strike ‘failed’ after some of their members broke ranks and refused to partake in it.

On Monday, hundreds of drivers staged a sit-down strike as they demanded the government to lift the restrictions on passenger numbers and allow them to resume full capacity of their vehicles and also create enough car parks to help address their plights.

But dozens of other drivers, many of whom are taxi drivers are seen commuting in traffic which sparked anger in many other drivers who were on strike.

They accused the drivers who broke ranks with them of “betraying their own interest”.

Amadou Jallow, one of the drivers on strike, said: “the reason why some tax drivers are running [commuting] in traffic is because they don’t respect themselves, what the union says we should abide by it.”
