When an elder rich in knowledge and wisdom departs, it feels as though an invaluable library has been consumed by flames. This heartfelt reflection, reminiscent of Amadou Hampâté Bâ’s words, encapsulates the profound sense of loss we experience in the wake of Alhaji Mbye Chow’s departure.
His extensive wisdom and contributions were akin to an expansive library, and his enduring legacy will continue to ignite inspiration in the hearts of future generations. I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, the cultural community, the Gambian government, and all Gambians mourning this tremendous loss.
The harsh reality of death has claimed Alhaji Mbye Chow, a remarkable cultural activist whose influence permeated countless lives both within Gambia and beyond. He has embarked on his final journey, leaving us in sorrow and deep reflection. In the face of this loss, we find solace only in the words our Lord permits us to share.

In the words of William Shakespeare, he embodied the essence of stars: “When he shall die, take him and cut him out in little stars, and he will make the face of heaven so fine that all the world will be in love with night and pay no worship to the garish sun.”
