Former TRRC lead counsel Essa Faal has rebuked Adama Barrow for making a deal with ex-president Yahya Jammeh.

Faal, who is contesting for the presidential election in December, said the political alliance with the former ruling APRC party

is a “betrayal to Jammeh’s victims”.

“They [Barrow government] told us that because they gone to bed with the party of the perpetrator and in their presence the party is telling them that this report is going under the dustbin,” Mr Faal said.

He however promised to campaign for the victims’ issue in the upcoming presidential campaign to ensure justice is delivered.

“I have made a personal commitment to make the issue of the victims of our 22 years of dictatorship a central course in my campaign.

“In fact, this is one of the reasons why I am running for president because I have no confidence, zero confidence that the report of the TRRC would see the light of day under this government,” he added.

“It is the responsibility of every single Gambian to do everything possible to ensure justice for these victims.

“If we don’t do that, we will be failing in our responsibility to them, and any individual who participates in enforcing or reinforcing the impunity that we now face is betraying the aspirations of the Gambian people.”
