Essa Faal, leader of Sobeyaa-APP, has pushed back at critics over “donkey cart driver” remark, adding that his remark was misinterpreted.
The lawyer-turned politician came under backlash after he scoffed at one of Barrow’s advisers, labelling the unnamed presidential adviser as “once a donkey cart driver”.
Following outrage over the acclaimed lawyer’s comments, he clarified that his remarks had been misunderstood.
“I was misinterpreted over my donkey cart driver remarks by those who don’t understand the English Language,” he said firmly.
Faal said that he used the phrase as “euphemism” which was to convey a clean intention but not to look low upon any group of the society.
“I respect everyone and I don’t look low upon anyone. This is why the president should appoint people who are educated and know the job,” he added.
