Abdoulie Sanyang, a former Gambian soldier, has been detained over remarks he made on Coffee Time last week.

Sanyang was arrested at the Banjul International Airport as he attempted to board a flight back to Switzerland, where he has been living since fleeing the country during the Jammeh regime.

He was accused of involvement in a foiled coup in 2000.

Speaking exclusively to Gambiana, police spokesman Cadet ASP Modou Musa Sisawo confirmed Sanyang’s arrest.

“Yes, I can confirm his arrest,” he told Gambiana by telephone.

“His arrest follows remarks made during an interview on Coffee Time with Peter Gomez on West Coast Radio, which attracted police attention for clarity in matters relating to national security,” he added.

Mr Sanyang is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
