Ex-Gambian soldier Abdoulie Sanyang appeared at Kanifing Magistrates’ Court today (21 August) following his arrest at Banjul International Airport on Sunday.

Sanyang, who recently made controversial remarks on West Coast Radio’s Coffee Time with Peter Gomez, faces allegations that include rigging the 2021 presidential election, involvement in a high-profile murder, and arson of the APRC political bureau.

He is set to be formally charged with arson, seditious intention, incitement to violence, and offences relating to judicial proceedings under the Criminal Offences Act 2025.

The court appearance marks the first official step in the legal process against the former soldier, with proceedings expected to continue in the coming days.
