The family of Sanyang stabbing victim, Gibril Ceesay, has spoken about the moment he was killed in the house by an intruder.

Gibril was involved in a scuffle with the unknown assailant before being found with stab wounds to the neck and rib.

His elder brother Omar, who also suffered from stab wounds as he fought the assailant, said the incident happened last night (Sunday) around 10pm.

Gibril’s death sparked a violent protest in Sanyang with angry protesters setting ablaze the town’s police station and attacking a Chinese-owned fishmeal factory.

Angry protesters pelted riot police with stones and projectiles as teargas were fired to disperse the mob.

Police at the protested while the army briefly sent in troops who guarded the already destroyed police station.

“The Inspector General’s Office wishes to urge the people of Sanyang Kombo South to exercise restraint and allow the law take it’s course. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to put the situation under control,” police said in a statement.
