A female Gambian police officer Kaddy Jarju has been praised for her outstanding work ethic after a photo of her directing traffic in a rainy and muddy day went viral on social media.

Mrs Jarju, a mother-of-three, is believed to be a graduate of Muslims Senior Secondary School.

As compare to other countries, security men and women are expected to wear raincoat and boots during the rainy seasons.

But this female police officer could only be seen in her blue and white uniform as she raised her hand directing traffic.

Mrs Jarju, a mother-of-three, received praises and commendations from Gambians on social media.

Alagie Saidy-Barrow who shared the photo on Facebook wrote “As dejecting as this picture may be to many of us, I am glad some of us choose to see beyond the ineptitude of our governments and instead focus on a gallant and dedicated Police Officer who stands in the rain and muddy waters doing a thankless job.”

Omar Jammeh wrote “Hats off to this dedicated officer. You’ve got to be proud of her.”

Mustapha Ceesay wrote “Although, she’s doing what’s expected of her like every other diligent civil service, she deserves compliments.”

Others called on the State to improve the working conditions of the men and women in uniform especially traffic police officers.

Some demanded that the Inspection General of Police promote Officer Jarju for her hard work and dedication.
