
A firefighter with the Gambia Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS), Fatou Sowe, has been praised after carrying out a daring rescue of a lamb trapped in a deep well in Basse.
The incident, which drew a crowd of onlookers, saw the firefighter descend into a narrow well estimated to be about 10 metres deep to save the animal.
With ropes secured around her for safety, Fatou Sowe carefully made her way down before gently securing the frightened lamb in a harness.
Witnesses watched in suspense as the operation unfolded, before breaking into cheers when she safely emerged from the well holding the lamb in her arms.
The successful rescue has since drawn admiration for the bravery and professionalism of the Basse fire team, with many commending their quick response and dedication.
The Gambia Fire and Rescue Service continues to play a vital role in responding to emergencies and protecting lives and property across the country.
