Fatoumatta Jahumpa Ceesay popular known as FJC has apologised to Mama Fatima Singhateh over allegations she made about her and her mother in a leaked audio.
The former speaker of the National Assembly has accused Ms Singhateh and her mum of overseeing former President Jammeh’s assets in The Gambia.
Ms Singhateh, a former Attorney General and longtime friend of Jammeh, denied the accusations.
She wrote on Twitter yesterday: “There is an audio purportedly made by Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay (FJC) making the rounds on social media.
“I don’t usually comment on misinformation but the fact that my name was mentioned makes me worried about the credibility of FJC. I am upset and disappointed by what she said.
“For the record and for the benefit of any person/ media outlet who is interested in the truth, I have NEVER and DO NOT manage any property belonging to HE the former president and for FJC to not only stoop so low as to tell a lie against me but also mention my mother’s name in that lie is beyond my comprehension.”
FJC has now retracted her statement and apologised to Ms Singhateh.
“I am apologising sincerely [about] a private conversation where your name and your mum’s name came up.
“The person I spoke with was asking me questions and said: I heard Mama served as an attorney or her mum. That’s what I replied that I heard Mama Singhateh and her mum collecting it [the power of attorney for Jammeh],” FJC said.
“I am very, very sorry for mentioning your name and your mum in my private conversation not knowing if I had answered that question the person would go and make it viral for people to listen.”
“It’s politics time and everybody is doing what they want? All other things I said I said myself [and] I cannot deny and that’s my personal opinion but for you it was a question and I mentioned your name and your mother,” she added.
