The National Assembly Member for Foni Berefet, Hon. Amie Colley, has called on her constituents to rally behind her following her recent public endorsement of President Adama Barrow’s development agenda.
In a statement to residents of her constituency, Colley reiterated her commitment to the people of Foni Berefet, stressing that her allegiance lies with their welfare, not with political movements such as the “No to Alliance” campaign.
“My responsibility is to the people of Foni Berefet,” she said. “Anyone who truly desires the development of our constituency should stand with me and support me as they would support their own children.”
Addressing the controversy surrounding her defection from the former ruling party, Colley acknowledged her longstanding respect for ex-president Yahya Jammeh, under whose regime she previously served. However, she questioned Jammeh’s continued silence over her political realignment, suggesting that his understanding of politics allows him to see the bigger picture.
“Despite what people say, he [Jammeh] has not condemned my decision. I believe he understands politics more than most,” she added.
Colley also responded to growing calls from some political quarters for a by-election in Foni Berefet, following her switch in allegiance. She dismissed those demands as unfounded and politically motivated.
“There is even an audio circulating from someone whose family we supported, calling for a by-election. Let me be clear: I will continue to serve as the elected representative of Foni Berefet,” she declared.
Concluding her address, Colley reaffirmed her commitment to supporting President Barrow’s development vision, which she believes aligns with the best interests of her constituents.
