The former managing director and financial controller of the defunct Daily Observer Andrew Pekeel DaCosta has died, his family said 

Mr. DaCosta died on Saturday after a short illness. 

Tributes have been paid to the late Andrew DaCosta who has been described as “a kind, loving and affable gentleman”.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of a  gentleman, a great dad and a great uncle, a true servant of God and a special gift to His people,” Christian organisation, CCLK, said in a statement.

“Words cannot express how saddened our SAC family is on the news of your demise. With our shared faith, we don’t have to guess where your spirit ends up because your incredible and admirable deeds on earth bear testament to what a purposeful life is all about,” the organisation Scholar Athletes for Change said in a tribute to their former president. 

Gambiana’s founder and managing editor Momodou Musa Touray said “This is a sad and irreparable loss. Mr DaCosta was a great man. He was always kind and warm in his interactions. My deepest condolences to his family.”

Alagi Yorro Jallow, former managing director of The Independent newspaper, said: “I am saddened to learn of the demise of Mr. Andrew Docosta, former Manager and Financial Controller of the Daily Observer. My  Profound condolences to his family, especially the private media fraternity. In addition to his banking and managerial gravitas. 

“I was much impressed by  Andrew Dacosta’s charm, infectious smile, and generosity. I mourned the loss of a creative soul, whose work will live on beyond his mortal presence. Rest in peace, brother Andrew Dacosta a quintessential banker and inspirational Daily Observer Manager and level-headed Financial Controller, also an upright gentleman.”

Pierre Jallow, a member of SAC, said: “I have lost a confidant and friend but i know a thousand people who will attest to the same. Take your rest as we pray for your entire family, as we all try to move on from the gaping hole you left.”

Jama Jack, Youth activist, said: “Lord, grant your servant Andrew Pikeel DaCosta everlasting peace. May your heavenly light forever on him shine. 

“Nyaaka naa baaye. Suma Yaaye nyaaka na haritam, waye baayi nenj yeup si loho Yallah. Jerejeff Daddy. I’ll find the right words someday.”
