Nineteen members of Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA) remain in detention after rejecting bail conditions set by police following their arrest on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
In a statement, GALA confirmed that while all detainees had been granted bail, they collectively refused the terms, which include providing a surety with a valid national identification card and paying D50,000 each.

The group described the conditions as “excessively restrictive and unjust.”
“In a display of principle and solidarity, our members have chosen to remain in detention rather than comply with those disproportionate demands,” the statement said.

GALA added that it is engaging with authorities to secure the unconditional release of all detainees.
The organisation also expressed solidarity with members of sister groups Team Gom Sa Bopa and EFSCRJ, praising what it called their “courageous and principled stand in the face of unjust arrest and treatment.”
The group called on the government and law enforcement agencies to respect the rights and dignity of all detainees and urged their “swift and unconditional release.”
