Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA) has launched a campaign targeting what it claims is the misappropriation of D300 million at the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA), one of the country’s key state institutions.

Announcing the initiative on social media, the civil society group said the alleged scandal would be its “next national assignment” in the fight against corruption.

Gallas Cessya Jnr, a founding member of GALA, stated: “The Gambia Ports Authority D300 million saga is now the focus. Gambians deserve answers.”

Co-founder Alieu Bah added that the group had agreed to stage a nationwide protest over the alleged theft. “They will return all the stolen monies. This is the time to build a new country free from corruption and the enrichment of a few,” he said.

GPA has yet to respond to the allegations, and details surrounding the purported financial misconduct remain unclear.

GALA has gained visibility in recent weeks for its anti-corruption activism and calls for independent investigations into the misuse of public funds. The group has urged stronger institutional oversight and accountability measures.

Despite pledges of reform since the end of Yahya Jammeh’s rule in 2017, corruption remains a persistent challenge in The Gambia, with civil society groups warning that progress has been slow and inconsistent.
