The Scorpions

The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) is awaiting the Confederation of African Football (CAF) verdict on its appeal against the Togolese national team.

In January, GFF lodged an appeal with CAF accusing the Togolese national team of playing an ineligible player, Adewale Olufade, during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Lome, last October.

The Scorpions are currently occupying bottom place in Group D of the continent’s biggest football qualifiers with only 5 points after five group matches.

They need to secure all three points against Algeria in their final group fixture next month in Algiers and hope Benin slip at home to Togo to make their debut in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Desert Foxes of Algeria are currently topping Group D with 10 points in five group matches. They will be playing for pride after securing qualification to the bi-annual championship last November.

The GFF are hoping to get the verdict from CAF before the Scorpions next game against Algeria, which they must win to stand any chance of qualifying for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.
