Jonathan McKinstry, who took charge of Gambia senior football team a week ago, is hopeful of victory against Seychelles on Saturday following a spectacular performance displayed by the players during training in Morocco.
The Gambia Scorpions will lock horns with the Seychelles Pirates in their World Cup qualifiers opener. And 24 players, many of whom made their debut call to the senior team.
Speaking to GFF media, the 38-year-old Irish man said: “I have a very clear idea about how I believe the team can play in line very well with my philosophy on the game.
“We want them to do what they are doing best week-in week-out with their clubs and then to walk off with each other. To help each other. To support each other on the field. We are looking for a good performance on Saturday against the Seychelles.”
“We are working towards that but we are also working towards a longer term [and] bigger goal in overall the team style. And that takes a little bit of time. You don’t just click your finger and you certainly become a really attacking and counter-pressing team overnight. But look, today in training we saw all the things we think we would see in the players in terms of their attitudes, in terms of their commitment, and the evolving style of play,” he added.
