The Gambia Deaf National Team is appealing for D2.5 million in urgent support to participate in the 14th West Africa Deaf Football Championship and the 4th West Africa Deaf Athletics Championship, scheduled for November 5 to 14, 2026, in Sierra Leone.

The team said it submitted a request for D3.7 million to the National Sports Council six months ago but was informed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports could not provide the funding.

Despite financial challenges, the team trained for four months and reached last year’s final after competing with a reduced squad, eventually losing on penalties.

The team is now appealing to the government, businesses, philanthropists, well-wishers and Gambian football stars, including Musa Barrow, Yankuba Minteh and Omar Colley, to help make their participation possible.
