The Gambia government has announced the launch of a countrywide Covid immunisation campaign to reach its 70% target. 

The immunisation drive will kick off  in March. 

Speaking to reporters Michael M Mendy, of the directorate of health, promotion and education, said the campaign is “geared towards fulfilling of the Government’s vision of scaling up vaccination coverage to 70%.”

“Despite significant gains in the reduction of cases of covid-19, the pandemic continues to impact lives and livelihoods. Therefore, the Ministry of Health urges all to unite and overcome this public health threat. 

“The goal of this campaign is to vaccinate all eligible individuals from the age of 12 years and above as no one is safe until we are all safe,” he added.

The Covid virus has killed nearly 400 people and infected thousands of others since it emergency in the country in 2020.
