Gambia are out of the U-20 World Cup after losing to Uruguay in their last 16 tie.

The Young Scorpions put up a solid performance but fell short on scoring despite having the most ball possession.

Uruguay capitalised on a weak Gambian defence to score the only goal on the second half.

Anderson Duarte broke the deadlock in the 65 minutes of play with a left footed shot from outside the box to the bottom right corner.

Coach Bojang team tried without success to level the game despite many opportunities. Talisman striker Adama Bojang was kept quite throughout the match by a solid Uruguay defence.

Earlier in the first half Gambia’s Mansour Mbye was shown the red card for a foul leaving his side down to 10 players.

Similarly, Uruguay’s Luciano Rodriguez was also shown the red for a violent conduct after he elbowed Gambia skipper Saine.
