The Gambia Police Force, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), inaugurated the Essau Model Police Station on Saturday, August 2, 2025, in a major step forward for security sector reform in the country.

Located in the North Bank Region, the new station is designed to promote democratic policing, strengthen community trust, and improve service delivery. It represents a shift toward people-centered law enforcement, aligned with international standards and The Gambia’s broader governance and justice reforms.

Officials say the facility will serve as a benchmark for future policing infrastructure, supporting transparency, accountability, and closer engagement between police and the communities they serve.

The project is part of ongoing UNDP support for The Gambia’s transition toward inclusive security and sustainable peace.
