The Gambia Police have received materials worth in excess of 13 million dalasis from the Turkish National Police.
The two countries continue to nurture their long standing bilateral friendship dating back to the First Republic which has so far seen both the Gambian army and police receiving training from Turkey.
The donated materials include 100 ballistic protection vest, ballistic protection helmet, 200 pieces of ballistic vest plate, 400 protection police shoes.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony held at the Police Intervention Unit’s headquarters in Kanifing, Gambia Police chief Seedy Muhktarr Touray, welcomed the donated materials and thanked the Turkish government and national police for their continued support to Gambians through the government.
“I am deeply honoured and delighted to be here this morning to formally receive uniforms and accessories donated by our dear friends from the Turkish national police. The donated items which includes the complete set of tactical uniforms, boots, summer shoes are a most welcome and timely donation. The partnership between the Gambia Police Force and Turkish National Police goes back to the first republic.
“Our aim and objective is to make the Gambia Police Force one of the finest forces in the sub-region in terms of professionalism, responsiveness, and respect for human rights. The Gambia Police Force is ready to work with interested parties to make our world safer and secure against criminal activities locally and internationally,” he said.
