Gambia health authorities have said 13 new coronavirus cases were recorded over the weekend bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 3910. 

Modou Njai, the Director of Health Promotion at the Ministry of Health, said 409 new test results were received from the National Public Health Laboratory. 

He said 13 samples tested positive for coronavirus, representing a 3.4% positivity test rate.

Nine of the new confirmed cases were people seeking Covid-19 travel test certificates and the other four were patients tested for the virus after developing flu-like symptoms. 

Mr Njai said 25 high-risk contacts of the recently confirmed cases have been identified and contacted to self-isolate for 14-days. 

He added that there are currently 89 active cases in the country and 96 people are in hotel quarantine. 

There was no reported Covid-19 related death.
