The Gambia has registered two new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s number of cases to 22.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that a man and woman who travelled into the country from neighboring Senegal have tested positive for the coronavirus. 

Many of the latest coronavirus cases in The Gambia have been people who travelled into the country from Senegal.

An official from the Ministry of Health, Buba Darboe,  told reporters :”as of today Monday May 11, we have registered 2 new confirmed laboratory cases of coronavirus bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 22.”

He added: “Both newly confirmed cases,  a male and female have been quarantined for recently returning into the country from Senegal.”

The country’s 45 days of lockdown measures is expected to lapse on May 17.
