The Gambia’s next international matches, including the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, are expected to be played at the Independence Stadium, according to a report by The Standard.

The newspaper reports that Gambian clubs participating in CAF interclub competitions will also be allowed to host their continental matches at home.

According to sources cited by The Standard, the Gambia Football Federation was informed of the development by CAF yesterday.

A CAF inspector is expected to be sent to the Independence Stadium during the upcoming international matches to assess the organisation and operational standards of the games.

If the inspection is satisfactory, the stadium could receive full CAF approval to host international fixtures.

“This is a normal process when grounds are being formerly readmitted to CAF approval,” a source told The Standard.

The development would mark a major step forward for Gambian football, potentially allowing the national team and Gambian clubs to once again enjoy home advantage in international competitions.
