The Gambia and the Spain have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening diplomatic and development cooperation following Political Consultations held in Banjul.

The meeting brought together senior officials from both countries under the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2023 to promote structured and sustained engagement.

The Spanish delegation was led by Diego Martinez Belio, State Secretary for Foreign and Global Affairs, while the Gambian side was headed by Ambassador Lang Yabou, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad.

Discussions focused on reviewing the progress of existing bilateral cooperation and identifying new areas for enhanced partnership.

Key sectors examined included trade and investment, tourism, education, migration management, governance, peace and security, and political collaboration at both regional and international levels.

Both sides also exchanged views on global affairs within multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, the African Union, and the Economic Community of West African States, underscoring the importance of coordinated positions on issues of shared concern.

Officials described the consultations as constructive and forward-looking, emphasizing the need for continuous dialogue to address emerging challenges and strengthen mutual interests.

The engagement further consolidates diplomatic ties between Banjul and Madrid and signals both governments’ resolve to expand cooperation for the benefit of their respective peoples.

At the close of the meeting, both delegations reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular high-level consultations under the MOU framework, reinforcing the longstanding and cordial relationship between the two nations.
