The Gambia Taekwondo Sparring Team has arrived in Senegal’s capital for the Dakar Open Taekwondo competition.

The team has no sponsorship despite repeated attempts to seek funding months prior to the championship.

Head coach of the team Assan Mbowe told Gambiana: “We have arrived in Dakar in a very difficult conditions and this is sad and concerning.

“We didn’t get funding and we had to dig in our own pockets to sponsor ourselves and we are representing our country, The Gambia.”

Master Mbowe added:”We are doing this for the country to help raise the flag of The Gambia.”

The Gambia Taekwondo Masters Association will meet the sports minister on Monday in a bid to look for solutions to the ongoing conflicts between the Taekwondo governing body and the general membership.
