The Gambia U-17 national team, popularly known as the Baby Scorpions, have been eliminated from the 2025 CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco following a narrow 2-1 defeat to Tunisia in their final Group C match.
Tunisia broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute through a brilliant strike from Yessine Ben Mahmoud. However, The Gambia responded almost immediately after the break, with Bisenty Mendy finding the back of the net just 11 seconds into the second half to level the score.
Despite their spirited fightback, the Baby Scorpions were undone midway through the second half when Tunisia were awarded a controversial penalty after a lengthy VAR review. Anisse Saidi converted from the spot to restore Tunisia’s lead, which they held onto until the final whistle.

The defeat meant The Gambia finished third in Group C with three points, courtesy of a 5-1 win over Somalia. Losses to Senegal and Tunisia, however, ended their hopes of progressing to the quarter -finals of the continental showpiece.
Despite their early exit, all is not lost for the Baby Scorpions, who now turn their attention to a crucial playoff match against Uganda. A win in that encounter will secure The Gambia a coveted spot in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, set to be held in Qatar later this year.
