The Gambia U-20 team have emphatically beaten an Argentine premier league football club, Godoy Cruz, in a thrilling friendly match ahead of their FIFA U-20 World Cup opener.
Salifu Colley scored a brace to maintain his stunning form in front of goal. Muhammed Sawaneh assisted Colley in both goals before substitute Kajally Drammeh added a third from the penalty spot.
Sainey Sanyang put the icing on the cake after a brilliant run from the left to fire in a thunderous shot into the corner.
“We want to have double daily training sessions effective tomorrow as this will also help the Captain and a few other players acclimatise with the weather and team,” coach Abdoulie Bojang said.
The Young Scorpions will open their campaign next Monday (22 May) against Honduras.
Then they will face France and South Korea in Group F for a place in the second round.
The Young Scorpions made their debut in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2007 but were eliminated in the second round after losing to Austria 2-1.
