The Gambia U-20 team will make their World Cup opening against Honduras U-20 at the historical Mendoza Stadium on Monday.

The game is scheduled at 6pm Gambian time.

The Gambian team is among four successful African U-20 teams who qualified to the World Cup in Argentina after their AFCON triumph.

The Young Scorpions were runners-up after losing out to their neighbour’s Young Teranga Lions of Senegal in the AFCON finals in Egypt.

However, the Young Scorpions have maintained their impressive form and last week beat an Argentinian premier league team 5-0 in a friendly match.

There’s high hopes for Coach Abdoulie Bojang’s team and thousands of fans both at home and at abroad are hoping for success after 16 years of hiatus.
