About 100,000 people have been vaccinated with the Johnson and Johnson and Sinopharm vaccines in the last two months.

The Ministry of Health’s situational data showed the uptake of vaccine as The Gambia battles its third wave of the pandemic.

But despite this vaccine rollout, coronavirus cases continue to increase daily.

Health officials have urged the public to adhere to the coronavirus regulations aimed at reducing spread of the virus.

“As of 4th August, 94,976 and 3679 people received their single dose of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) and 1st dose of Sinopharm vaccine respectively,” the Ministry of Health said.

It added that four Covid-19-related deaths were registered, bringing the total number of deaths since March 2020 to 242.

The ages of the deceased were 45, 62, 65 and 70 years. All of the victims, three men and one woman, had severe Covid-19 pneumonia.

Ninety-eight new cases were registered taking the total number of coronavirus cases ever confirmed in the country to 8,603.
