Legendary Gambian footballer, Alhagie Momodou Njie, well-known as Biri Biri has died at the age of 72.

Biri Biri was reported to have been battling with an unnamed illness.

Mr Njie regarded as the Gambia’s greatest footballer to ever play the game was a star at home and abroad.

The right winger played professional football for Sevilla FC in Spain and Herfølge Boldklub in Denmark. 

Before his time in Europe, Biri Biri played for Black Diamonds, Phomtoms and Augustines in Gambia as well as Mighty Blackpool of Sierra Leone.

Gambians have taken to social media to pay tributes to the football legend and the country’s greatest football talent.
