Faye Njie, Gambian international judoka, has won gold medal in the African Judo Open 2023 held at the Ivorian capital, Abidjan.

Njie triumphed with more points after wrestling down Bissau Guinean Cesar Diogo in a long fight. He was eventually handed the ippon (Judo points).

Judoka Njie contested along with 154 judo athletes including 101 men and 53 women from 27 countries.

“The results sets Njie in good standing for qualification to the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, an event he has already qualified for,” The Gambia Judo Association said in a statement.

The Finland-born Gambian is the only Gambian judoka to have competed in Olympic judoka for the country.
