
Two Gambian migrants have died and several others injured following a gas explosion in a residential building in Tripoli, Libya, on Thursday, the Gambian government has confirmed.
In a statement issued on Friday (30 May), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad said the incident occurred in the Arada District of the Libyan capital.
According to preliminary reports, around 35 Gambian nationals were in the building at the time of the explosion.

Fifteen people were injured, three of them seriously, while twelve sustained minor injuries.
All injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment.
Emergency services in Libya, including fire crews, responded to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire.
The Gambian government expressed its “profound sorrow” and extended condolences to the families of the deceased.
The Ministry added that it is working closely with Libyan authorities and the Gambian mission in Tripoli to monitor the situation.
“The Government of The Gambia remains fully committed to ensuring the welfare and protection of Gambians abroad,” the statement added.
