Abdoulie (Lie) Ngum also known as Abdul Kabir has died.

Ngum, a Gambian music icon, passed away today (30 December) in Banjul. 

The musician was a member of the legendary band Gelewar that made waves in the 70s –80s with sellout shows in The Gambia and beyond.

The band which also had another Gambian music legend Musa Afia Ngum was credited with the popularising of mbalax music in the Senegambia region. 

Lie Ngum is the father of Gambian music star Cess Ngum. 

He was also an entrepreneur after retiring from music and managed Taranga Beach Resort.
