The Gambian passport ranks 16th among 54 African passports and 127th globally in the 2026 Passport Reports ranking, with holders able to access 71 destinations without a visa in advance.

The 71 destinations comprise 43 visa-free, 25 offering visa-on-arrival or other simplified entry, and three requiring an electronic travel authorisation (eTA).

The passport has a mobility score of 71 and a global access rate of 35.9%.

The Gambia also ranks 16th among African Union members and 20th among members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

The mobility score has fallen from 74 in 2023, 2024 and 2025 to 71 in 2026.

Several African destinations are visa-free for Gambian passport holders, including Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda.

Outside Africa, visa-free destinations include The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Fiji, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Malaysia, Singapore, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and Vanuatu.

Major destinations including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and the Schengen Area still require Gambian travellers to obtain visas before departure.

The report separately ranks The Gambia 59th among 199 countries for welcoming foreign visitors. This measures inbound travel access and is separate from the passport ranking.

The 2026 figures keep the Gambian passport among Africa’s top 20, although its mobility score is three points below the previous three years.
