Gambian police have questioned Baboucarr Bahoum after calling the residents of Kiang as “the most ungrateful people”.

Mr Bahoum made the comments on his Facebook page following the loss of the ruling National People’s Party to United Democratic Party in the just concluded Kiang Massembeh ward by-election.

After the comments, scores of Gambians took to social media to condemn him and called for his arrest by the police.

Meanwhile, late on Monday, police announced that: “Police invited Mr. Baboucarr Bahoum for questioning following his recent statements on social media in the aftermath of the Kiang Councillor election.”

“Given the sensitivity of the current political climate, the police consider it imperative to assess statements constituting a threat to public order and national unity,” police added.
