President Adama Barrow has paid tribute to former US President Jimmy Carter, describing him as “great president” and “great human”.

Jimmy Carter, who ruled the US from 1977 to 1981 died aged 100, becoming the longest US president to live on earth.

In his tributes, President Barrow praised Jimmy’s legacy as a champion of human rights, who deserves emulation by every president.

“I think what he achieved after presidency was great. And he spent his entire life supporting humanity. He was very social, and I think this an encouragement for all presidents that there is life after presidency,” he said.

“Therefore, I would seize this opportunity on my behalf and my family and the entire Gambian people, to extend our condolences to the American ambassador and to the President of the United States and the government of the United States.

“We are very sad about the passing of Jimmy Carta but I think he has achieved so much that we will remember him,” he added.
