Gambian striker Ali Sowe has expressed joy playing for the country after he was included in the national football team for the African Cup of National tournament.

The 29-year-old striker said playing for his country of birth is an “excitement” and “joy” and promised to do his best for the country throughout the AFCON tournament which kicks off next week in Ivory Coast.

“I am excited and very happy to be here. It’s very beautiful seeing my brothers’ part of this team. It already looks interesting. As a player it looks the same thing, but playing for my nation is special, and the only thing I am here is to give my best to the nation,” he told Gambia Football Federation’s media team.

The Gambian professional footballer plays as a forward for Turkish club Ankaragücü, on loan from Russian club Rostove.

He began his football career in a Gambian division one club, GAMTEL FC before leaving for Chievo  in 2013.
