Talented Gambian teenager, Yankuba Minteh, is among players called up by the Gambia national head coach Tom Sainfeit ahead of Scorpions AFCON qualifier match against Congo on September 10.

Minteh made his debut for the national team in November 2022.

The Gambia national team only needs a point to qualify for the AFCON championship in Ivory Coast in 2024.

Meanwhile, among coach Tom’s 23-man list is Musa Barrow who is likely to join Saudi-Pro League side Al-Taawoun from Bologna.

However, fans back home despite showing their support for the Scorpions to win, expressed their dismay about the national team playing outside the country because of the ban on the Independence Stadium by CAF for not being up to international standard.

A seemingly rush-to-finish renovations have been ongoing at the Independence Stadium but the works have been ruled out by CAF inspection team last month.
