Gambian youths are expected to join a new protest today at 1pm, organised by Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA), following the arrest of 19 young demonstrators over a protest against high data prices.

The arrests occurred Friday when youth activists marched against the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA)’s recent price hike.

Security forces intervened, detaining 19 individuals and dispersing the crowd.

GALA said the demonstration is aimed at pressing for the release of those detained and highlighting issues of government accountability and resource mismanagement.

Authorities have not yet commented on whether additional measures will be taken for today’s protest.
