At least 55 Gambian migrants are among more than 600 African migrants in the Algerian desert awaiting deportation through Niger.

This mass deportations from Algeria to Niger was held in two folds of departures in the last few days with 1,277 people involved,” Italy-based Gambian migrant rights advocate Ebrima Drammeh told Gambiana.

“We understand that there are 55 Gambians among the migrants. 

“Other nationalities include 9 Benin, 1 Burkinabe, 21 Cameroonians, 263 Conakry Guineans, 3 Bissau Guineans, 12 Liberians, 152 Malians, 66 Nigerians, 18 Senegalese, 10 Sierra Leoneans and 1 Togolese,” he added.
