The Gambian Embassy in Washington D.C. has issued an advisory following reports that The Gambia is among 36 countries whose citizens may face new travel restrictions to the United States.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Embassy called on members of the Gambian diaspora and prospective travellers to the US to adhere strictly to immigration rules.

It warned against illegal entry and overstaying visas, urging all Gambian nationals issued entry visas to respect the terms of their stay.

The advisory also drew attention to a voluntary departure programme for undocumented immigrants in the United States, which includes financial incentives. Details of the initiative are available through the US Department of Homeland Security’s official website.

The Embassy encouraged Gambian nationals in the US to register with its consular section and seek assistance when needed.

“The Embassy remains committed to constructive engagement with the US government through dialogue to address these concerns,” the statement concluded.
