Gambian international volleyball star Ebrima Jallow has etched his name into the history books after helping his Burkinabe club, AS Douanes, clinch the prestigious Africa Zone 3 Indoor Volleyball Championship.
The trailblazer, playing in the tournament for the first time, played a pivotal role in AS Douanes’ successful campaign. His contribution was instrumental as the club secured the title for the second time in its history.

“It definitely means a lot to me,” Jallow said after the victory. “This was my first time participating in a CAVB championship, and to win it on my debut is something I’m extremely proud of. I’m honoured to be the first Gambian volleyball player to win this competition. It’s a big achievement in my career.”

Jallow emphasises the importance of mental and physical preparation heading into such a high-level competition.
“It wasn’t easy, especially in my role as a setter,” he noted. “But I give a big thanks to my teammates for making things easier every time we stepped onto the court. We had a plan, trusted our coach’s tactics, and executed it perfectly. That’s how we became champions.”
The rising star also shared a powerful message for aspiring volleyball players back home in The Gambia.

“My advice is simple, work hard every day, dream big, listen to your coaches, and be patient. Success takes time,” he said. “Motivate yourself in everything you do and keep pushing forward. I’m praying for every athlete out there to reach the professional level by God’s grace.”
Jallow’s triumph is seen as a proud moment for Gambian volleyball and a beacon of inspiration for the next generation of athletes from the country.
