Alhagie Ismaila Sibi, The Gambia’s Honourary Consul in Cote d’Ivoire has died in Abidjan on Friday August 23.

In a statement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said “Mr. Sibi’s passing represents a huge loss to The Gambia. He will be remembered for his positive stance in protecting the interests and welfare of the Gambian community in Cote d’Ivoire, promoting peace and maintaining a strong bilateral cooperation between The Gambia and Cote d’Ivoire.”

President Barrow has sent his condolences to the family of Alhagie Ismaila Sibi.

“Mr Sibi, throughout his life as a prominent businessman and philanthropist, never hesitated to assist Gambians in need wherever he encountered them. In the latter part of his life, he served the country as Honourary Consul in Cote D’Ivoire with great devotion and distinction.
We pray that Allah forgives his shortcomings and make Jannahtul Firdausi his final abode,” the president said in the statement.
