Gambia’s Mbalax star Mam Tamsir Njie has died aged 64.
The cause of his death is yet to be established.
Mam Tamsir was an award-winning Gambian musician and cultural icon. He had produced over 20 successful albums and was a leading voice in the Gambia’s music scene in the 90s.
The teacher-turned- musician was also a TV personality. Until his death, he has been hosting a fisheries programmes on the national broadcaster GRTS.
His employer GRTS paid tribute to the late singer.
“Veteran musician, teacher and cultural icon Mam Tamsir Njie Dies, aged 64. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” GRTS said in a statement.
