Gambia Democratic Congress youth leader says the party welcomes the Senegalese delegation in the Gambia to help fight the coronavirus.

“It’s a good move and we need to encourage them. The pandemic is a global problem and it needs a collective effort to defeat it,” Momodou MC Cham Jnr told Gambiana.

A delegation of Senegalese health professionals arrived in The Gambia on Saturday following President Adama Barrow’s call for help from President Macky Sall as the pandemic overwhelmed the country’s poor and underfunded health system.

“We have seen countries like Russia sent medical doctors some months ago to Italy to help them tackle the pandemic,” Mr Cham added.

At least 2,686 people in The Gambia are known to have contracted coronavirus with 90 deaths since its emergency in March.
